Whistle

 

Play the Whistle is an initiative to encourage competing hockey teams, team officials and spectator groups to play in the true spirit of the game. The spirit of the game encompasses demonstrating behaviours that are outlined in the “Codes of Behaviour”. Teams that demonstrate the true spirit of hockey will be rewarded with points corresponding to their degree of fair play at the end of each match. The allocation of points will be decided by the umpires and recorded on the match scorecard. An award will be given to the team with the highest number of points accumulated at the end of the competition.

This initiative has been used for a few years by Hockey NSW at a State Championship level.

Points for each team are awarded as follows:

3 POINTS: Exceptional behaviour was demonstrated by the team, coach, manager and spectators. The game was played in the true spirit of hockey.

2 POINTS: The game was played in good spirit by the team. The players, coach, manager and spectators all demonstrated overall good behavior and adhered to their codes of behaviour.

1 POINT: The match was incident-free however the team played with less than ideal spirit. One or more players, the coach, manager and/or spectators demonstrated less than ideal behaviour however were not in breach of their code of behaviour.

0 POINTS: The team, the coach, manager and/or spectators created a hostile atmosphere. Behaviour was less than acceptable and was in breach of one or more codes of behaviour.

-1 POINT: The team, the coach, manager and/or spectators demonstrated unacceptable behaviour and were in breach of one or more codes of behaviour which interfered with the conduct of the game.

-2 POINTS: The team, the coach, manager and/or spectators demonstrated considerable unacceptable behaviour and were in breach of one or more codes of behaviour which interfered with the conduct of the game.

-3 POINTS: The team, the coach, manager and/or spectators demonstrated extremely unacceptable behaviour and were in breach of one or more codes of behaviour which interfered with the conduct of the game.

Players Code of Behaviour

 

As a registered player of the CCJHA you are expected to meet the following requirements with regard to your conduct in all local and representative teams.

 

  1. Behave in a sporting manner at all times to all players, officials, spectators and display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.

 

  1. Don’t make detrimental statements in respect of the performance of any match officials or umpires and players.

 

  1. Play by the rules at all times, work equally hard for yourself and your team and ensure that the game of hockey is not brought into disrepute by your actions.

 

  1. Do not engage in inappropriate and/or physical contact with players or officials.

 

  1. Accept responsibility for all actions taken. Exercise reasonable care to prevent injury by ensuring that you play within the rules. Reasonable care consists of showing due diligence in abiding by the rules and adhering to the officials decisions. Exercise reasonable care to prevent damage to others property or facilities and bear responsibility for costs.

 

  1. Adhere to the Anti-Doping Policy advocated by Hockey Australia.

 

  1. Do not bet on the outcome or on any other aspect of a hockey match or competition.

 

  1. Do not try to achieve a contrived outcome to a match or competition, or otherwise improperly influence the outcome or any other aspect of a match or a competition.

 

  1. Do not show dissension, displeasure or disapproval (by action or verbal abuse) towards an umpire or match official as a consequence of his or her decision or generally.

 

  1. Abstain from the use of tobacco and the consumption of alcoholic beverages while in the playing/representative uniform.

 

  1. Adhere to HA racial and sexual vilification policy.

 

  1. Don’t do anything, which adversely affects or reflects on or discredits the game of hockey or CCJHA, including, but not limited to, any illegal act or any act of dishonesty or fraud.

 

  1. Refrain from using obscene, offensive or insulting language and/or making obscene gestures which may insult other players, officials or spectators.

 

  1. No Representative Player is to drive a vehicle during the course of a State Championship unless approval is given by the Executive or it is a medical emergency.

 

  1. Remember that while you are in representative teams, you are representing the CCJHA, and anything you do reflects on the CCJHA. You must be co-operative, courteous and respectful at all times.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Coaches/Manager/ Team Officials Code of Behaviour

 

As a coach, manager or team official affiliated with the CCJHA you must meet the following requirements with regard to your conduct.

 

1.     Treat players with respect at all times

 

2.     Behave in a sportsmanlike manner at all times to other coaches, officials, players and spectators and act honestly, in good faith and in the best interest of the players and the CCJHA.

 

3.     Place the safety, welfare and enjoyment of the players above all else.

 

4.     Act in compliance of competition rules and conditions and avoid situations that may lead to a conflict of interest.

 

5.     Act honestly, in good faith and in the best interest of your team. Be courteous, respectful and open to discussion and interaction and be impartial, consistent and objective when making decisions.

 

6.     Make no detrimental statements in public in respect of the performance of your team or any match officials or umpires. Do not engage in any conduct that is likely to discredit your team or the CCJHA.

 

7.     Promote a climate of mutual support amongst the players. Encourage players to respect one another and their worth within the team.

 

8.     Encourage and facilitate players’ independence and responsibility for their own behaviour, performance and actions.

 

9.     Determine, in consultation with the player, what information is confidential and respect that confidentiality.

 

10.  Avoid situations with your players that could be construed as compromising.

 

11.  Adhere to the Anti-Doping Policy advocated by Hockey Australia.

 

12.  Use due care and diligence in fulfilling functions of office and exercising the powers attached to that office including providing a safe environment for training and competition.

 

13.  Recognise individual differences in players and cater to these as best you can; as all players are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.

 

14.  Make a commitment to providing a quality service to your players. Provide for team development, which is planned and sequential and be open to other people’s opinions.

 

15.  Refrain from using obscene, offensive or insulting language and/or making obscene gestures, which may insult players, officials or spectators.

 

16.  Don’t do anything, which adversely affects or reflects on or discredits the game of hockey or CCJHA, including, but not limited to, any illegal act or any act of dishonesty or fraud. Do not drink alcohol or smoke in uniform.

 

17.  Accept responsibility for your actions and decisions and comply with the spirit as well as the letter of the law and with the principals of the code.

 

Spectators Code of Behaviour

 

As a spectator watching an event that is conducted or sanctioned by the Central Coast Junior Hockey Association, you must meet the following requirements with regard to your conduct.

 

  1. Spectators are an important part of the game and shall at all times conform to accepted standards of good sportsmanship and behaviour.

 

 

  1. Spectators shall at all time respect officials, coaches and players and extend all courtesies to them.

 

  1. Lead by example and encourage players to play within the rules, respect all players, coaches, umpires and fellow spectators – physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated.

 

  1. Respect the umpires’ decision. Do not abuse, threaten or intimidate an umpire or match official and do not show dissension, displeasure or disapproval towards an umpire or match official’s decision in an abusive or unreasonable fashion.

 

  1. Support skilled performances and show respect for opposition teams and players. Give positive comments that motivate and encourage continued efforts of players.

 

  1. Display appropriate social behaviour by not using profane, demeaning or derogatory language, or harassing or pressure players, coaches, officials or other spectators.

 

  1. Leave the spectator area tidy and free from litter.

 

  1. Do not ridicule mistakes or losses – supporters are there to support.

 

  1. Acknowledge and thank all volunteers who are giving up their valuable time to enable the conduct of competition.

 

  1. Spectators shall abide by the Rules and Regulations of the venue when accompanying CCJHA affiliated teams.

 

  1. Spectators shall not do anything, which adversely affects or reflects on or discredits CCJHA, including but not limited to any illegal act or any act of dishonesty or fraud.

 

Players, Team Officials & Spectators should be aware that should any of these Codes of Behaviour be breached you may be asked to leave the complex, make recompense and appropriate disciplinary measures may be taken.
